OPEN RANGE

"Open Range" has been more than forty years in the making.  

In 2017 I completed photographing fourteen of the country's largest ranches. These "big outfits" were in many cases the same ones I cowboyed on over forty years earlier and the same ones my father photographed for his book, The Cowboy, in 1975. They all play host to the nomadic big outfit cowboy intent on living a traditional way of life in a modern world. I hope these photographs adequately convey the respect and gratitude I feel towards the men and women I met on the trail of this project.
